IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri Made A Big Statement On CSK’s Captaincy Change

Ravi Shastri Made A Big Statement On CSK’s Captaincy Change: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable start to the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The four-time champions of IPL are reeling at the 9th spot in the points table, with 4 defeats and 0 wins in their account so far.

Ahead of the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings went through a major captaincy switch as the legendary captain MS Dhoni handed over the reins of the franchise to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Jadeja is yet to record his first win as CSK’s captain as the Chennai-based franchise has lost all the games they have played so far in the season. Be it their bowling line-up or their batting line-up, they are clearly struggling to get going and give consistent performances on-field.

After suffering a 6 wicket defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in their first game of IPL 2022, CSK has suffered back-to-back defeats against Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, and SunRisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri believes things could have been different for CSK if Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t named the captain of the Yellow army.

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo show T20 Time Out, Shastri opined that Faf du Plessis should have been the captain of CSK if not MS Dhoni. He said:

“I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should have not let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner and played a lot. If Dhoni didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he (Jadeja) can then play freely, no pressure of captaincy,”

He added: “Things could have been different for Chennai,”

For the unversed, Faf du Plessis had become an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings, however, he was released ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auctions. Later, he was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore and was named the captain of the side, succeeding Virat Kohli.

Chennai Super Kings will be now locking its horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
