Players Who Missed Out On The ODI Series Against Sri Lanka

Team India’s grand home season will finally come to an end after having played Sri Lanka in the limited overs format. For the 3 Match ODI series against the visitors, Virat Kohli has been given the much needed rest and Rohit Sharma will lead the team.

The selection committee picked a 15 member squad for the 3 Match ODI series with Rohit Sharma at the helm. With Kohli’s absence the middle order will have an added responsibility on their shoulders but we still reckon that even without the mighty Kohli, Team India will thrash Sri Lanka in the ODI series.

Here’s a list of players who were hopeful of finding a berth in the Indian squad for the ODI series but got nothing besides disappointment. Here’s a list of the players who missed out on getting a place in the Indian squad designated to play Sri Lanka.

1. Rishabh Pant

He has not made the best of the limited opportunities he has had. He’s always looked very promising in the IPL but failed to deliver when it mattered the most. The 20 year old youngsters offers great potential but needs grooming. He’s currently playing for Delhi in the Ranji and has not had the greatest of forms by his side.

There was no reason as to why the selectors would have picked him for this tour. The selection committee rather picked up Dinesh Karthik as the stand by keeper in the squad.

2. Mayank Aggarwal

1064 runs at an average of 133! Yes, that’s his tally of this season of the Ranji Trophy. These numbers are just unbelievably amazing. He’s just been unstoppable and is making all heads turn towards him given his grand batting performance in domestic cricket.

Playing for Karnataka, Mayank Aggarwal has scored 5 centuries in his last 7 games which is just phenomenal. He would have been expecting a call to the national side but was really unfortunate to miss out despite those fall numbers that speak for him. He is the highest run getter in this season of the Ranji and sooner or later that would count.

3. Mohammad Siraj

Mohammad Siraj got his maiden game in Indian colours against the Kiwis in the T20 series. He’s been making headlines recently for his rise to fame from being the son of an Auto Driver.

In his very first outing for India he gave away 53 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Albeit he got one wicket but that wasn’t enough to get him a place in the ODI squad. The 23 year old IPL sensation would be hoping to knock the doors of India’s ODI brigade pretty soon.

4. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing Ranji. Playing for Kerala, Sanju has scored 577 runs in 10 innings. The speculations of his making it to the side were very strong.

He was being looked at as a stand by keeper for MS Dhoni and hence he was well expected to make it to the squad. But that was not to be and he missed out on this time.

The 17 year old is yet another cricketing sensation from Mumbai. Mumbai has given a lot to Indian cricket and that’s where he comes from. He’s been catching eyeballs for his superb batting performances in the domestic circuit. He has scored 521 runs in 10 innings at a hefty average. The youngster would want the Indian jersey to come to him to the earliest.
