IPL 2022: Here’s Why Mohammed Shami Refused To Bowl His 4th Over Against LSG

Sensational bowler Mohammed Shami stole the show last night during the IPL 2022 game between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Shami made a terrific start to his IPL 2022 campaign as he ran through the Lucknow Super Giants batters with his stellar display with the ball.

All thanks to his brilliant bowling spells, Gujarat Titans restricted Super Giants to 158/6 in 20 overs as he managed to rattle the top-order of the KL Rahul-led side.

Shami picked three wickets as he started the contest with an excellent delivery to get rid of the big fish — Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul. Following this, he went on to remove Quinton de Kock and Manish Pandey in short intervals to push Lucknow into the backseat.

Shami turned out to be the star of the game for Gujarat Titans as he picked up three wickets for 25 runs in his four overs spell. All thanks to his brilliant performance, he was given the man of the match award.

Later, after the game, during the post-match conference, while receiving the Man of the Match award, Shami revealed his conversation with the captain Hardik Pandya. Well, Shami was on a roll and Hardik asked him if he wanted to get done with his four-overs spell. Responding to this, Shami refused to bowl through and asked the captain to keep an over for a later period. He said:

“Hardik asked me if I wanted the fourth over on the trot, but I told him to hold me back,”

He added: “I was warmed up well. It was important to get a good start in the first match, I looked to bowl a Test match line and length here. When the ball comes out of your hand like that … (smiles). I have worked very hard on this seam position. People say it is god-gifted, but that’s not the case. I try to come round the wicket to a leftie and make that angle because that’s the most uncomfortable thing for them. I just look to do that,”

Mohammed Shami managed to get rid of KL Rahul on the first ball of the game itself. Speaking on that first ball, Shami said: “I just wanted to bowl a good line and length. When the ball comes out of your hand well…people say it’s a God gift but not exactly, I have worked on it a lot.”
