Virat Kohli Equals Sunil Gavaskar’s Record

Records are synonymous to Virat Kohli and Kohli is a metaphor for milestones. Even though the first test was washed out a largely by rain but Kohli made sure that he does not miss out on achieving another tale of milestones.

The Eden Garden witnessed some records being made by Kohli even though the rain disturbed match ended in a draw. With his 50th International Ton coming at the Eden Gardens in the second innings of the Kolkata test Virat Kohli has now at par with the great Sunil Gavaskar for most tons as a captain for India.

He got out for a duck in the first innings but came back strongly in the second innings to hit a staggering unbeaten century. This makes him the only Indian captain to score a duck and a century in the same test. This was his 18th test century and it came when it was needed the most.

Virat Kohli Equals Sunil Gavaskar’s Record

Both Kohli and Gavaskar now have 11 centuries each in the capacity of Indian Captain and following them is Azharuddin with a tally of 9. Sachin Tendulkar has 7 while Dhoni, Ganguly and Pataudi have 5 test tons each while captaining team India in test matches. Rahul Dravid, the wall has 4 tons being the captain of India in tests.

Pretty evident is the fact that very soon Kohli would go past Sir Gavaskar and be the undisputed king of the list of most test centuries by an Indian captain. What we are keen to see is where would does he take this benchmark to since he is just 29 years old as of now and still has a lot of cricket left.
