Even though the first test at the Eden Gardens thrived under disruption of rain but it has still been a befitting tie. Besides the performance of rain there were also cricketing performances and hence the first test match at Eden Gardens has its own tale of numbers to narrate. Here’s the list of records or numbers about the ongoing first test between India and Sri Lanka.

1. After 7 years India got a century partnership between its openers and this comes as a big relief. The last century stand came in 2010 between Sehwag and Gambhir in South Africa.

2. In the second innings of the match Shikhar Dhawan scored his 4th Test Fifty and this is his first against Sri Lanka.

3. Shikhar Dhawan played a stunning knock of 187 on his debut at Mohali. His today’s score of 94 came as being his second highest score in Tests in India after the knock of 187 that came in 2013.

4. With 622 runs in 8 innings, Shikhar Dhawan’s average of around 77 is the highest by an Indian against Sri Lanka. This is for batsman with at least 600 runs against the Lankans.

5. The partnership of 166 is the second highest opening partnership for India at the Eden Gardens. The first highest came in 1998 between Laxman and Navjot Singh Sidhu which was of 191 runs.

6. With a half century today LK Rahul became the second player to register more than 9 Test half centuries this year. Earlier this year Dean Elgar from South Africa became the first to do so. Elgar has 5 centuries and 4 half centuries.

7. Rangana Herath played at No 9 today and hit his first half century playing at No 9. His previous 2 half centuries came while he batted at No 8.

8. This is a surprising tally now. Ashwin only bowled 8 overs and Jadeja bowled 1 over in the first innings. This is the least bowled by an Indian spin pair in a home test.

9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who bowled brilliantly to earn 4 wickets registered his second best performance in Tests. He ended with figures of 4 for 88 today while his best figures came against the Kiwis. His best figures are 5 for 48 and that too at the Eden Gardens.

10. This was only the third time in the history of Indian Test Cricket that the pacers claimed all the wickets in an innings. While Bhuvi and Shammi bagged 4 wickets each, Umesh picked up two leaving none for the spinners.
