Indian sensational bowler Deepak Chahar was bought back by Chennai Super Kings for INR 14 crore, making him the highest-paid Indian bowler at the ongoing IPL 2022 mega-auction.

Having been bought by the Chennai-based franchise for INR 80 lakh, Deepak Chahar will now earn 18 times salary hike and is now more valuable than the legendary MS Dhoni, money-wise in the IPL. And as he became the most expensive bowler in the ongoing auction, the Indian Premier League’s retention rule came under focus.

After CSK bought him for INR 14 crore, Deepak Chahar was asked about him earning more than MS Dhoni and how people will talk about it a lot. In an interview, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif asked: “MS Dhoni is taking 12cr and you will be taking 14cr, people will talk about it alot”.

Responding to this, Deepak Chahar revealed how MS Dhoni wouldn’t have taken a single rupee if it was in his hands. He also revealed how CSK wanted him to take the first retention but he took the 2nd retention. He revealed:

“I knew that CSK will go for me in the auction but you never know. But CSK showed full faith in me. Talking about the money part, if it was in MS Dhoni’s hand he wouldn’t have taken a single rupee. CSK asked him to take the first retention, but he took the 2nd retention for himself”. “.

For the unversed, MS Dhoni has retained for Rs 12 crore while CSK paid Ravindra Jadeja Rs 16 crore to pick him as their first retention choice. Even as CSK’s top priority remains Dhoni, the CSK captain wanted others to fetch more money and hence he didn’t want to be the first-choice retention.
