India’s limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma, also the Mumbai Indians skipper, revealed how some of the Indian team players are watching the IPL 2022 mega-auction. The mega-auction, where a total of 600 players will go under the hammer, has gotten underway in Bangalore on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma, who kickstarted his full-time India captaincy tenure with a 3-0 ODI series win over the West Indies in Ahmedabad, shared the picture of some Indian players sitting together in a hotel room and watching the auction.
“Some tensed and some happy faces,” Rohit wrote on his Instagram story sharing a picture of the players sitting together.
In the photo, while Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur are seen having fun and enjoying the auction, Suryakumar Yadav, who has been retained by Mumbai, and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal have spotted serious looks as the auction proceeds.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have broken the bank to re-sign Ishan Kishan for a huge amount of 15.25 crore. Kishan was released ahead of the mega-auction by MI, but now has been rebought by the Rohit Sharma-led franchise.
Mumbai were the first to start the bid for Kishan at 2 crore and remained relentless till they acquired his services. MI had waited for their first buy; it was worth as Kishan had been highly successful with MI and also made his journey to the national side.

Shreyas Iyer, who asked to be released from Delhi Capitals after Rishabh Pant was decided as the captain, has been bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping 12.25 crore. Although KKR have also secured Pat Cummins, the Australian Test skipper, Iyer is likely to be appointed as KKR’s new captain.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is also expected to fetch big bids from the franchises, including from RCB who have released him earlier.
Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga were other all-rounders who had big paydays – both bought by RCB for 10.75 crore each.
