Meet Bhutan’s Only Cricketer Mikyo Dorji: The IPL is a platform known to give young and unknown talents a chance to learn from the best in the world and play in the biggest franchise cricket on the planet. There have been so many Indian and overseas players who have been unearthed courtesy of the IPL.

Last week, the BCCI announced the final list of a total of 1,214 players that have been registered for the upcoming IPL 2022 mega-auction next month. Of these, 896 are Indians and 318 are overseas players.

Of the 318 overseas stars, the most are, from Australia – 59. 48 players from South Africa are hoping for a lucrative IPL contract, so are the 41 registered from the West Indies and the 36 from Sri Lanka. 30 English players have also been added to the pool.

New Zealand (29), Afghanistan (20), Bangladesh (9) are the other countries from where numerous players have registered their names. Players from smaller cricketing nations like Nepal (15), USA (14), Namibia (5) and Oman (3), while one each from Bhutan, Netherlands, Scotland, and UAE, will be given the opportunity to bag an IPL contract on the auction day.
Ranjung Mikyo Dorji is the only player from Bhutan to have registered himself for the IPL 2022 mega-auction. 22-year old Dorji is a right-handed middle-order batsman and can bowl handy medium pace.

Mikyo Dorji recently participated in the Everest Premier League, in Kirtipur, Nepal. Mikyo Dorji was a regular feature in Bhutan’s team during the unofficial matches in the ICC World Twenty20 Asia Region Qualifier B in 2019.

Mikyo Dorji has played in one T20I, versus Nepal in 2019, in which he scored 27 runs; he showed his power-hitting capability in that innings as he thumped 4 sixes in his knock. Dorji would be hoping for an IPL franchise to show interest in his services.
