Sunil Gavaskar Hailed Shikhar Dhawan For His Sensational Form

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is highly impressed with the brilliance of the Indian and Delhi Capitals’ swashbuckling opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has grabbed the top position in the run-scoring charts in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2021.

Shikhar Dhawan has successfully stolen the Orange Cap from KL Rahul. So far, he has scored 380 runs in the ongoing tournament and is continuing with his swashbuckling form for his team Delhi Capitals. He gave another match-winning performance in DC’s last match against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the match against Punjab Kings, chasing the target of 167 runs, Shikhar Dhawan gave a match-winning performance and guided Delhi to a comfortable 7-wicket win by scoring an unbeaten 69-run knock off 47 balls, where he smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Talking about Dhawan’s terrific form and masterful innings, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaped praises on the cricketer. Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar was all praises for Shikhar Dhawan. He said:

“Look at some of his shots. These are the shots which have always got runs. He hasn’t tried to do anything different. These are the shots that he plays in all forms of the game, in longer formats as well. They are paying off for him and he is looking like a million bucks.”

He added:

“It’s so important. At the end of the day, a lot of times a set batsman gets out on the 15th or the 16th over and a new batsman has to come in and he doesn’t find it easy. The asking rate might be pretty much run-a-ball at that stage but even a new batsman coming in can find it difficult. So, if you are well set and you want to go, and finish it. And that’s what Shikhar Dhawan did,

Applauding Shikhar’s consistency and his sustained brilliance, Gavaskar praised Shikhar’s ability to keep things simple and not get carried away by his good form. He concluded:

“He’s been in tremendous form right from the start of the season. He is carrying his form and he is not taking it easy at all. Sometimes, batsmen tend to take the good form for granted, and get into bad habits. But he hasn’t got into any,”
