The 2nd ODI between India and Sri Lanka was an exciting ODI that finally lived up to the expectations of cricket fans. India were given a real scare and once again needed the expertise and experience of MS Dhoni – After a reprieve.

Dhoni was reserved in his batting wherein he hit only one boundary and let Bhuvneshwar Kumar do the chunk of the big hitting.

Big escape:

However, Dhoni’s innings involved a lot of grit, experience and a big smattering of luck. In the 35th Over, Dhoni had just settled in to the crease when he escaped from what would have surely been the end of the game.

Sri Lankan bowler Vishwa Fernando, spurred on by Dananjaya’s spell, was able to beat Dhoni a couple of times before he nearly got the legend’s wicket.

Dhoni, facing the delivery, got a big inside edge that deflected from his pad and rolled towards the stumps. However, the bails stood still and so did a billion hearts across the Palk Strait.

That was just the luck that Dhoni needed as he then batted with confidence and guided Bhuvneshwar Kumar ably to milk the singles and twos around the ground.

One shudders to think what would have happened had the ball just had a little bit more momentum before rolling towards the stumps. India would have been 1-1 in the series and the next game would have been absolutely crucial. But, the ‘cricketer cool’ along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, calmed the ship and took India to victory. This innings will not be talked about much, but in the context of the series, it is a massive innings and could turn out to be the difference in the end.

That lucky escape was the luck MS Dhoni needed and he made full use of the opportunity by staying in the middle and taking India across the line. Watch the video here:
