IPL is generally considered to be a tournament where the players make a whopping amount of money, but it doesn’t necessarily apply to all the players. There are a few players who possess great qulaity with bat and ball, but they end up getting contracts worth less than what they deserve because the bidding war for them in the auction doesn’t get stretched long enough.
Here are the 5 players who are getting far less money in the IPL than they deserve –
#1 Deepak Chahar (80 Lakh INR)
Deepak Chahar has been the most successful bowler for Chennai Super Kings in the last couple of seasons and his performance for CSK helped him earn a national call-up as well, but he is one of the lowest paid players in the CSK camp.
Chahar was bought by CSK for just 80 Lakh INR in the auction ahead of IPL 2018 probably because most of the franchises were not aware of his ability to swing the new ball both ways. If Chahar gets into the auction in future, he might be bought for a much higher amount, but CSK will probably not release him now.
#2 Mitchell Santner (50 Lakh INR)
It was an absolute steal for CSK when they managed to secure the services of Mitchell Santner for just 50 Lakh INR in the IPL 2018 auction. Santner is not just a left arm spinner, he is also a very useful batsman down the order who is capable of changing the complexion of the game with the bat too.
Santner is also one of those rare left arm spinners in the world who can be used both as an attacking and a defensive option, depending on the requirement. While he can dart the ball in and bowl a defensive line, he can also put enough revs on the ball and turn it big. The New Zealand southpaw is certainly a player worth more than 50 Lakh.
#3 Lungi Ngidi (50 Lakh INR)
Lungi Ngidi is probably one of the top fast bowlers around the world in white ball cricket and CSK managed to get him too for just 50 Lakh INR. Ngidi was the most economical bowler out of all teams in IPL 2018 and his performance in the latter stages of the tournament helped CSK a great deal in securing their third IPL title.
The tall South African speedster is expected to play a big role for the Super Kings again in the upcoming IPL season, but he is being paid nowhere near as much as he deserves.
#4 Sandeep Lamichhane (20 Lakh INR)
When Lamichhane’s name popped up in the IPL auction in 2018, not too many people knew about him and that was probably the reason not too many bids were placed for him either, as Delhi Capitals managed to buy him in the first bid itself at an amount of just 20 Lakh.
But, Lamichhane, right now, is one of the most sought after leg spinners in the world and has got lucrative contracts in various T20 leagues around the world. If Delhi lets him go after this IPL, the Nepal international might fetch a huge amount in the next auction.
#5 Mohammad Nabi (1 Crore INR)

While 1 Crore INR is still a huge amount for one and a half months of cricket, it’s nowhere near enough for Mohammad Nabi for what he brings to the table. The former Afghanistan skipper deserves at least five times higher amount than that.
Nabi is not just one of the best finishers in the shortest format of the game with the bat, he is also one of the best off spinners going around, who can bowl at any stage of the innings, with the new ball or even in the death. Nabi’s skill-set is just immense.
