When Dinesh Karthik had first burst onto the international scene, he was regarded as a player with extraordinary potential and was tipped as someone who was going to have a really bright future.
The 35-year old has not been able to live up to the expectations in international cricket so far, but he has been very successful in the IPL and is the only player in the history of the tournament who has scored more than 500 runs for four different teams.
Here are the 4 teams Dinesh Karthik has scored more than 500 runs for –
#1 Delhi Capitals:
Delhi Capitals, which was named Delhi Daredevils earlier, was Karthik’s first IPL team. He played for the Daredevils for three years before moving to Kings XI Punjab. However, he returned to play for the Daredevils again in 2014 and played for them for a year.
Karthik was the vice-captain of the Daredevils in his second tenure at the franchise and even captained in a few games in the absence of the regular captain Kevin Pietersen. Karthik scored a total of 1036 runs for Delhi Daredevils in four seasons.
#2 Mumbai Indians:
Mumbai Indians was Karthik’s third IPL team after Delhi Capitals (earlier Daredevils) and Kings XI Punjab and he enjoyed a lot of success at Mumbai, not just individually, but collectively as well.
When Mumbai Indians won the IPL trophy for the first time ever in their history in 2013, Karthik was a part of the team. The right-handed wicket-keeper batsman scored 748 runs in the two seasons that he spent at MI.
#3 Gujarat Lions:
When Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned from the IPL for a couple of years, two new franchises had been brought into the tournament temporarily and Gujarat Lions was one of those franchises.
They picked Dinesh Karthik in the auction and Karthik featured for them in IPL 2016 and 2017, scoring a total of 698 runs for the franchise. Karthik’s effort helped the Gujarat Lions qualify for the IPL playoffs in their very first season in the tournament.
#4 Kolkata Knight Riders:
Karthik was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2018 and he was appointed the captain of the team straightaway. Karthik didn’t disappoint the franchise either, as he guided the team to the playoffs in IPL 2018 and led from the front scoring some very valuable runs down the order.
Karthik has, so far, got 751 runs to his name playing for the KKR and he is going to captain the KKR again in the next season of the IPL.
