IPL 2020 Auction: Shimron Hetmyer’s Carribean Celebration After Delhi Capitals Buy Him For INR 7.75 Crore

Shimron Hetmyer uploaded a video of him dancing on the bed just after Delhi Capitals signed the West Indies batsman for Rs 7.5 crores. He celebrated his success at the IPL 2020 auction in typical Carribean style.

Hetmyer must be very disappointed when Royal Challengers Bangalore released him last month. Going back into the auction pool gives birth to the probability of going unsold. But the 22-year-old was rewarded by the Delhi Capitals on Thursday when the franchise signed him for 15.5 times his base price (50 lakhs) and arrived at the humongous amount of Rs 7.5 crores.

The bidding war started with Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals calling one after the other before Ricky Ponting and company emerged as the highest bidders. Shimron Hetmyer’s 132 run innings in the first One Day International against India caught global attention and the franchises must’ve wanted to milk all his form in April 2020. He was also the highest run-scorer for West Indies in the 20 over series that India won (2-1).

The hard hitter was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 5 crore in 2019 but he failed to live up to his reputation by scoring only 90 runs in 5 matches. The Delhi Capitals will hope to see some miracle from Hetmeyr, something that helps them win their maiden IPL title.

Right after the auctions, Delhi Capitals via their Twitter handle shared a video of Hetmyer dancing on the hotel bed.

Us: Hi, Mr. Shimron. Welcome to DC! Can you please share a message for our fans? *1 minute later* @SHetmyer (sic.),” the caption read.

Shimron looked very enthusiastic while dancing around. A lot of other franchises also posted videos of players and their excitement but this dance of Shimron Hetmyer just went viral.

The 22-year-old must be preparing for the decider 50 over-game to be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.
