8 Biggest Highlights Of The Day For Team India

In what was an exciting day of Test cricket for Indian fans, Shikhar Dhawan went on an onslaught against the Sri Lankans, ensuring that they never got even the faintest sniff in the game. Dhawan blasted 190 and fell just 10 runs short of a well-deserved double century. He did however, break a lot of other records in the process:

Second most runs in a session:

Shikhar Dhawan made an impact post lunch when he went berserk and smashed 126 runs in one session. His 126 runs in the session between lunch and tea is the second highest by any Indian batsman in Test history. The record unsurprisingly belongs to Virender Sehwag, who hit 133 runs in a masterful 293 against the same opposition at Brabourne in Mumbai back in 2009.

Fourth highest in the middle session:

Only 3 batsmen in the history of the game have scored more runs in the middle session than Dhawan. The record is held by Denis Compton who scored 173 runs against Pakistan in 1954.

Second highest strike rate above 150:

Dhawan made his 190 runs in just 168 balls, which means that he has the second highest strike rate for an Indian in an innings above 150. He trails only Virender Sehwag who had a strike rate of 115.35 against the same opposition.

His highest score:

This innings beat Dhawan’s previous high score of 187 that he hit on his debut. This is his 5th century and already his third score above 150.

7th man stranded at 190:

Dhawan is one of the 7 Indian batsmen to be dismissed for 190 but less than 200. Against Sri Lanka alone, India have conceded 5 scores of 190-199.
