MS Dhoni is one of the greatest captains in cricket history. He is also one of the greatest finishers in One Day International cricket history. And, he is also, arguably, the greatest Indian captain ever.
MS Dhoni started his career as a ‘dashing’ wicketkeeper batsman who had long brown hair and could hit the ball a long way out of the park. He became an instant hit among the Indian cricket fans because of his stylish looks and big hitting. Those who have followed Indian cricket would agree that Indian cricket fans always give more love to cricketers who are stylish and attacking. And, MS Dhoni was both.
Slowly, Dhoni became a permanent member of India’s squad across all three formats of the game and fans and selectors got a long-term solution to their long-standing ‘wicketkeeper-batsman’ problem.
However, the biggest turning point in MS Dhoni’s career came when he was made the captain of young Indian side for the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in England, in 2007. Dhoni led the young team to victory and he was soon made the captain of Indian Cricket Team, across all three formats of the game. And, the rest, as they say, is history.
