IPL 2018: The Indian Premier League (IPL) is, arguably, the best domestic tournament in the world. Since its inception, cricketers from all across the world get together in India and celebrate the biggest T20 carnival of the world.
There is no special window for the Indian Premier League (IPL) but many cricket playing nations keep their players free so that they can participate in the IPL, get some exposure of playing in the Indian conditions and also earn money.
However, due to non-stop cricketing action throughout the year, cricketers get tired and pick injuries. In the ongoing IPL 2018, we have already seen many players getting injured and there is a whole list of injured players.
In this post, The Cricket Lounge has listed the ‘Injured XI’ of IPL 2018:
Openers: Shikhar Dhawan and Chris Gayle
Shikhar Dhawan picked up an injury during one of the matches in IPL 2018 and he had walk out of the pitch to nurse it. SRH fans would be hoping that he comes back soon to the squad and doesn’t get injured again.
Chris Gayle has been in outstanding form with the bat for KXIP but he recently picked an injury and missed their last match against Delhi Daredevils. KXIP’s captain Ravichandran Ashwin said that “he is a bit sore and needs rest”.
Middle order: Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis Kedar Jadhav, Marcus Stoinis
Suresh Raina picked a calf injury in the second match of the tournament and missed a couple of matches.
Kedar Jadhav picked an injury early in the tournament and he was ruled out for the entire tournament. It was a big blow for Chennai Super Kings
Marcus Stoinis was retained by his franchise Kings XI Punjab at the auctions but has not been able to take part in the matches owing to an injury.
Faf du Plessis is slowly getting back to his full fitness but he missed first few matches due to injury for Chennai Super Kings.
All-rounders: Axar Patel and Andre Russell
Despite being the only player retained by Kings XI Punjab, he has not been able to take part in their matches. Axar Patel’s inclusion will surely give a big boost to already in form Kings XI Punjab.
Andre Russell has been in outstanding form with bat and ball and his injury has come as a huge blow for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Russell suffered an injury to his right thigh and had to walk off the field during the match against Kings XI Punjab.
Bowlers: Mitchell Starc, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Nathan Couter Nile
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was ruled out of the 2018 Indian Premier League due to a right leg injury. His injury came as a huge blow for his franchise KKR because he is, arguably, the best fast bowler in the world.
Indian cricket fans were very excited to see the young speedster Kamlesh Nagarkoti in IPL 2018. But, an injury to his foot ruled him out of the competition and Prasidh Krishna, the fast bowler from Karnataka was called up as his replacement.
Nathan Couter Nile, who picked 15 wickets last season for KKR was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. His injury came as a big blow for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
12th man: Mitchell Santner
The young New Zealand spinner will undergo a knee surgery and he was forced to miss IPL 2018 for the same reason. Santner was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings in the auctions.
