Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has launched a verbal attack on the BCCI for excluding Rohit Sharma from the upcoming tour to Australia. Rohit had suffered a hamstring injury during a game against Kings xI Punjab and then went on to warm the bench for the next few games.
Later on, Rohit wasn’t included in India’s squad for the upcoming tour. However, he left everyone confused as he made his way back into the eleven in MI’s last league game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday.
While the decision of BCCI reflected that Rohit is seriously injured, however, his action has suggested otherwise. Rohit Sharma returned back to the league as the skipper of Mumbai Indians and also claimed that he is ‘fit and fine‘.
All this has led to confusion and many cricketers and cricket experts are opening up on this matter and are asking BCCI the right questions. The latest one to come forward and take a stand on this matter is the former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, who lashed out at the BCCI for missing out on Rohit Sharma.
Talking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag didn’t mince any words while slamming BCCI as he cited that the Indian board should have kept Rohit as a replacement. He said:
“I don’t think that it is possible that Ravi Shastri did not know about Rohit Sharma’s situation. Even if he is not a part of the selection committee, the selectors must have spoken to him a day or two days ago regarding what is he thinking, and taken his feedback and inputs,”
He added:
“If he got injured, they could have called in a replacement for him. But he was not kept in India’s squad, this I don’t understand. This is a strange year. Now, what you will do? He played this game against SRH. He will play the playoffs games. He is saying I am fit. Then why didn’t you pick him,”
Virender Sehwag further slammed BCCI for mismanagement and claimed that they should have taken all the information from the franchise on whether Rohit is fit enough to play or not. He said:
“I am surprised to see that a player who is ready to play for the franchise has not been selected to play for the country. This is surprising and mismanagement from the BCCI. They should have taken all the information that if he can play for his IPL team, then he should be kept in the Indian team,”
