The Indian team might not have won a T20 World Cup trophy after its inaugural edition, but the Indian batsmen have always held top positions in the ICC rankings.
There have been questions marks over the strike rate of Indian batsmen in T20 cricket in the last few years, but their average has always been high which has helped them maintain top rankings.
Here are the players who have achieved the highest rating points from India in T20I cricket:
#1 Virat Kohli (897)
Virat Kohli has achieved the highest rating point ever by an Indian batsman in the shortest format of the game.
He did it in 2014 when he was in impeccable form in all three formats. He almost drove India to the T20 World Cup trophy that year; however his efforts went in vain eventually as India lost the final against Sri Lanka.
#2 KL Rahul (854)
KL Rahul in 2018 went very close to Kohli’s ratings with some brilliant performances in tough conditions.
Rahul scored heavily batting at different positions for India which included an amazing hundred in England as well. That hundred actually helped India win their first-ever T20I series on English soil.
#3 Yuvraj Singh (793)
Yuvraj was in a bit of an indifferent form in the other formats of the game in 2010, but his T20I performances were very good. He might not have scored heavily all the time, but he played a lot of impact knocks down the order which made match-winning differences for India.
#4 Suresh Raina (776)
Suresh Raina, for a brief period of time, batted at no. 3 for India in T20I cricket in 2010-11 and it was there that he was at his best.
Raina not only used to take advantage of the powerplay overs if he walked in early, he also used to milk the spinners wonderfully well in the middle phase of the innings. However, the southpaw couldn’t really keep the ratings high for long.
#5 Gautam Gambhir (723)
Gautam Gambhir achieved his career-best ratings in T20I cricket in 2009. It was probably the peak of his career where he was in absolute control of his batting.
Gambhir was not only capable of holding one end for India if the situation demanded; he could up the ante as well. Because of the fact that his footwork against the spinners was terrific; he never let the spin bowlers put the brakes on.
