MS Dhoni is one of the greatest captains in the world. The legend from Ranchi has long made his mark as one of the sharpest minds in the game. Dhoni has evolved along with the game. The DRS system has been a boon for the cricketers, proving to turn vital games into a team’s favor. After a certain resistance to the idea, Dhoni embraced the new technology and has since gone on to use it extremely wisely. In this article, we will take a look at the 5 instances which showed why MS Dhoni is the ‘King of DRS’.

#5. Getting Imam-ul-Haq out – Asia Cup 2018

Any India-Pakistan match is a high octane one. Any decision comes under great scrutiny by hundreds of experts and fans. So when Dhoni signaled to get the LBW decision of Imam-ul-Haq challenged, people were curious. But lo and behold! The review showed that the ball was actually crashing onto the stumps. The decision was overturned and India got a dangerous batsman out due to Dhoni’s brilliance.

#4. Overturning LBW decision against England –  Leeds, 2018

England spinner Adil Rashid had already wreaked havoc on India, dismissing Kohli and Raina in the same over. Dhoni was doing some damage control when a ripper from Moeen Ali hit Dhoni’s pads. The umpire’s finger went up when an appeal was raised, and Dhoni was quick to call for a review. The DRS showed that the ball had bounced high and was missing the stumps by a huge margin. India won the review and Dhoni saved his wicket.

#3. Saving Yuvraj Singh vs England – Cuttack, 2017

Yuvraj Singh was batting alongside MS Dhoni in the second ODI against England at Cuttack. He nicked the ball, and was given ‘caught-behind’. No one doubted the dismissal except Dhoni, who immediately called for a review. The DRS showed that the ball had bounced just before reaching the keeper’s gloves. Yuvraj Singh went on to make 150 while Dhoni himself made a brilliant 134.

#2. Eoin Morgan’s catch vs England – Pune, 2017

India were battling England in an ODI series in 2017. England had wreaked havoc on the hosts, setting a massive target of 351 to win. Things could’ve gone from bad to worse had Dhoni not reviewed a decision which got Morgan out. The dangerous batsman had nicked a ball off Hardik Pandya, but the umpire did not seem to notice. Dhoni signaled Kohli to go upstairs, which he did. The replays showed that he had indeed nicked the ball. Morgan was given out and had to walk back to the pavilion.

#1. Sending Chris Lynn back- CSK vs KKR, Kolkata, IPL 2018

Chris Lynn is one of the most destructive batsmen in the world. The talented batsman has made his name as one of the premier T20 players in the game and is highly sought-after all over the world. So naturally, his wicket is a precious one. In a game of CSK vs KKR, he seemingly nicked the ball off CSK pacer Lungi Ngidi. The players appealed, but the umpire thought that the ball had only brushed the pads before going to Dhoni. The captain reviewed the decision and the ‘hotspot’ confirmed his suspicions. Chris Lynn was given out and Dhoni’s brilliance came to fore once again.
