Gautam Gambhir Slammed MS Dhoni Yet Again And Twitterati Can’t Keep Calm: MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings flopped at their second game of IPL 2020 against Rajasthan Royals as they faced a 16-run defeat. MS Dhoni’s decision of coming to bat at number 7 has disappointed many and as a result, he is getting brutally criticized for his decision of coming to bat at number 7 in the 15th over.
While his decision to bat later worked like a wonder for CSK in their first match, but in the second match, his decision didn’t work in favor of the team and they ended up being on the losing side. From cricket pundits to cricketers, many are giving their opinions on MS Dhoni’s performance and are criticizing his decision.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is often seen giving his opinion about cricket, was recently at it again as he criticized MS Dhoni for his decision. Gambhir called the decision of Dhoni as an ‘absolute miscalculation’.
Talking to ESPNCrickinfo, Gautam Gambhir said that if someone else has done the same, he would be getting criticized, however, it is not the case with Dhoni. He said:
“See, if someone else would have done this, some other [batsman] captain had batted No. 7, he would have got a lot of flak. It is MS Dhoni – probably why people don’t talk about it,”
Gambhir further pointed out that with the absence of a player like Suresh Raina in the team, MS is making believe that other cricketers are better than him. He said:
“When you don’t have Suresh Raina, you’re making people believe that Sam Curran is better than you. You’re making people believe that Ruturaj Gaikwad, Curran, Kedar Jadhav, Faf du Plessis, M Vijay, all these guys, are better than you.”
He said that instead of leading from the front, MS Dhoni sending other cricketers ahead of him makes no sense to him. He said:
MS Dhoni batting at No. 7? And sending [Ruturaj] Gaikwad before him, Sam Curran before him. Makes no sense to me. In fact, you should be leading from the front. And this is not what you call leading from the front.
Batting at No. 7 when you’re chasing what… 213 [217]? The game was over. Faf was probably the lone warrior. Yes, you can talk about MS Dhoni’s last over [when he hit three sixes], but it was of no use to be honest. It was just all personal runs.”
Earlier, MS Dhoni had also talked about his decision to bat at No. 7, saying that he didn’t have a lot of match practice in the lead up to their tie against Rajasthan Royals. He said:
“I haven’t batted for a long time. 14-day quarantine doesn’t help. Also wanted to try different things, give opportunities to Sam. Have the opportunity to try different things. If it doesn’t work, you can always go back to your strengths,”
Meanwhile, the statement of Gautam Gambhir didn’t go down well on the fans of MS Dhoni, who are now trolling him left, right, and center.

Gambhir is absolutely right. We need commentators like him in the IPL who can criticize big name Indian players too rather than the current ones who are harsh on foreign players but keep quiet when it comes to the likes of Dhoni etc. Dhoni’s innings yesterday was horrendous.
