MS Dhoni’s retirement is one of the hottest topics of discussions in the world cricket as millions of his fans are waiting desperately for one final return to the cricket field. Dhoni hasn’t played cricket for Indian since the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand and his fans are hoping that they would get say him goodbye from the field.

As far as former cricketers and pundits are concerned, the view divided. Many of them believe that MS Dhoni still has a lot of cricket left in him but there are many who have said that MS Dhoni has surpassed his best and now there is no place for him in the squad.

Let’s have a look at 7 cricket voices who believe MS Dhoni can not make a comeback.

Wasim Jaffer:

7 Former Cricketers Who Have Said That MS Dhoni Can Not Make A Comeback

“Where will he (MS Dhoni) fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,”

Shoaib Akhtar:

“This guy has served to the best of his ability. He should leave cricket with dignity. I don’t know why he dragged it for so long. He should have retired after the World Cup. If I would have been in his place, I would have hung up my boots. I could have played shorter formats for three-four years but I left (after the 2011 WC) as I wasn’t into the game 100 percent. So why drag?”

Krishnamachari Srikkanth:

“I am not going to be diplomatic. I am talking about if I was the chairman of the selection committee, what would I do. If the IPL does not happen then his chances are very, very bleak. Because straightaway, in my opinion, KL Rahul will be the wicketkeeper-batsman. Rishabh Pant, I still think he might be a bit of a doubt, but I believe that Rishabh Pant is highly talented.”

Gautam Gambhir:

“If the IPL does not happen this year, then it will become very difficult for MS Dhoni to make a comeback. On what basis can he be selected since he’s not been playing for the last one or one and a half years.”

“The apt replacement for Dhoni could be KL Rahul. Ever since he has donned the keeper’s gloves in white-ball cricket, I’ve seen his performance, both batting and keeping. Obviously his keeping is not as good as Dhoni’s, but if you are looking at T20 cricket, Rahul’s a utility player, can keep and bat at No. 3 or 4.”

Mike Hesson:

“It seems like India have moved on. And they have certainly had to put their plans in place for when that (Dhoni’s retirement) happens. I have heard in the press that a lot depends on the IPL in terms of how Dhoni operates. If he is in good touch then obviously he plays but looks like India have moved past MS Dhoni at this stage,”

Kapil Dev:

“As his (MS Dhoni) fan, yes (would like to see him playing the T20 World Cup) but as a cricketer, I think it all depends on the management. He hasn’t played for one year. He should play more matches to be in the team. There shouldn’t be different parameters for different players,”

“He is on his last leg. I am his fan so I would love to see him but in IPL I am looking for the next generation.”

7. Virender Sehwag:

“Where will he (MS Dhoni) fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them”
