For Sachin Tendulkar cricket always came first and he gave utmost respect to the game every single time he stepped on the field to represent India or any other team he played for.
There are so many moments in his career that can be pointed out to highlight his greatness. Every single time he came out to bat, the chants of “Sachin-Sachin” used to echo in the stadium. Remembering the moment, stills gives us goosebumps. But, boos when he got out cheaply?
Well, this is something one can never expect and associate with the master blaster. However, it’s true, it happened and that too in Mumbai, his own home!
The unusual incident took place during the 3rd Test vs England in 2006. The England cricket team had posted 400 and Sachin Tendulkar walked out to bat on 24/2. People were expecting a big score from the GOAT, but his form was in a bit of a slump.
Sachin was struggling to put bat to ball, and all of this because of the elbow surgery he had in 2004. He was declining in form since then. Surely, there were brilliant performances but very few.
Watching him struggle, the crowd present at the Mumbai’s ground was getting impatient. That day, Sachin looked nothing like the legend who tormented the best bowling attacks. To watch little master struggling like this, it was sheer agony. However, it only lasted 33 minutes and 21 balls. After scoring 1 run, Sachin fell to James Anderson.
And this was the time when the crowd had had enough. As Sachin was walking back to the pavilion, the crowd started booing the legendary player. The devoted fans didn’t shy away from showing their displeasure with Sachin’s performance that day. But Sachin didn’t react much, he knew he had let his fans down, thus, he just hung his head down and walked back.
But the legend that he is, he made a strong comeback and went on to become the greatest ambassador of this game. He would become the first and till now only player to play 200 Tests.
