Dale Steyn, one of the most lethal bowlers in international cricket ever, has left everyone stunned by saying that he would bring the curtains down on his limited overs in cricket after the World Cup next year.

The South African pacer has been one of the strongest weapons for the team. However, his injury has been plagued with several injuries. His shoulder injury that took place in the year 2016 has effected his career very much. The cricketer wasn’t able to play competitive cricket till the last year as the healing process took longer than it was expected.

However, he made the most awaited comeback during the first test cricket against India, however, the joy and the excitement was very short-lived as he suffered another injury. The South African cricketer wasn’t able to play for IPL this time as well.

But seems like Dale Steyn has made up his mind this time and has opened up about his retirement plans. Recently at a promotional event, Dale Steyn said :

“I will be trying to get to that World Cup (in England). But after the World Cup I don’t see myself playing white ball cricket for South Africa. By the time the next World Cup comes, I will be 40,”

The last One Day Internationals played by Dale Steyn was in the year 2016. In order to make the cut, Dale Steyn would have to do exceedingly well. Talking about the same, he said :

“If you look at the (SA) batting line-up, our top six have played 1,000 games, but lower half – from eight to eleven who are currently playing – not even 150 games. You need to draw on experience”

He added:

“I hope that will be my trump card when the selection comes to the World Cup. I may not necessarily play all the time. But I think my experience will help with me just being there,”

Dale Steyn also made sure to reveal that he is no mood to retire from Test cricket any time soon. He said :

“When it comes to Test cricket, I would like to play as long as possible. I have finally come out of a cloud of injuries. I broke my shoulder and in my first game on return (against India at Cape Town), I landed in a foothole. It was rotten luck,”

“It’s quite difficult to come back from a broken shoulder, especially with your bowling arm. I feel that’s (injury) gone and now I am fit. I played two Test matches without an injury (against Sri Lanka recently), bowled at good pace and never went off the field because of niggles. It’s a big plus,”

He also talked about his recent tour, where he played in the two-Test series in Sri Lanka which the Proteas lost 2-0. Dale Steyn couldn’t leave a mark with his performance. He said :

“Wickets are something that’s not guaranteed. I am happy I came out 100 per cent (fitness wise). That’s the biggest cloud I have gotten over, especially after the last two years.”

Well, we really wish that he makes the cut for World Cup. What are your thoughts about this ?
