The stage was all set at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun as the first ever international showdown took place there. However, the Indian cricket team did not feature in the game, the match was held between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The match proved itself to be very interesting, the match was first of the three T20I series.

Rashid Khan once again left everyone stunned with his spell. The Afghanistan bowler was introduced in the attack and went on to take two wickets in the first two deliveries. One of the wickets included a big wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim. Rashid Khan’s spell got the Afghanistan’s hold back in the game. Soon, the Afghanistan’s spinners overplayed the Afghanistan’s middle order batsmen.

Before the match started, Bangladesh won the toss and choose to bowl first. The Afghanistan’s players started off well, with their openers Mohammad Shahzad and Usman Ghani added 63 runs for the first wicket. Rubel Hossain dismissed Ghani on 26 in the 9th over. While, on the other hand Shakib Al Hasan dismissed Shahzad on 40.

The skipper Asghar Stanikzai scored 25 before getting dismissed. And soon, a few more wickets stumbled down. A quick 18-ball 36 from Samiullah Shenwari and a rapid 24 runs off the 8 balls, from Shafiqullah Shafiq stretched the total scores to 167/8 .

Later, in the second innings, Liton Das (30) and Shakib Al Hasan (15) tried their best to score a big number but failed to get along for a long time. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 20. And then came Rashid Khan who with his double strike sent back Mushfiqur and Sabbir Rahman to pavilion.

The Bangladeshi cricket team lost the match by 45 wickets. Here’s how twitterati reacted to the match, have a look:

When Shakib said he thought Afghanistan started favourites against Bangladesh, I thought he was playing a mind game. Didn’t realise he meant it.

Bangladesh reached the final of the Nidahas Trophy, almost won it and now they have lost to Afghanistan, a nation that came to prominence close to 2 decades after them.

Not sure if Bangladesh cricket is rising or is it still stationary. #AfgvBan
