To India’s dominance in the U19 World Cup, Shubman Gill was the main driving force. He showed great character and temperament in the tournament and was instrumental in India’s claim to the title. He ended as the leading run scorer in the tournament and was rewarded with the honour of the man of the tournament.
The 18-year-old lad from Punjab scored 372 runs from just 5 innings at a stellar average of 124. He scored a ton when it was most needed, his century against arch-rivals Pakistan assured India a seat in the finals.
IS HE THE NEXT VIRAT KOHLI?
After his dream run of form in the U19 World Cup, India’s number 3 batsman is now being hailed as the next Virat Kohli. People find his batting style a lot similar to the Indian captain and that is why he is now being seen as the next Virat Kohli in the making.
Here is what said about his comparison with Virat Kohli
“I think Kohli is a great cricketer and there is a long way for me to go to be compared with Kohli. I am nowhere near him as he has achieved a lot while I am just beginning my career. Yeah, I admire his style, I admire his attitude and the way he carries himself on and off the field. But, for me to reach that level, there is still a long way to go.”
WHAT ARE HIS FUTURE PLANS?
Talking about what he plans to do next, Shubman Gill said
“Of course, my dream is to play for India in the future. But now, I just want to focus on one tournament at a time. I don’t want to think about representing the county right now.
I am playing for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare trophy from tomorrow (today) and my focus right now is on doing well in that tournament. If I keep scoring runs, things will take care of themselves.”
