One thing that binds cricketers and other people like us is the fact that they too are, sometimes human. They’ve been through the rigours of life and its only that their job is much more high profile than what we do. However, one thing that is for sure though is the fact that cricketers are also scared of ghosts. Here are a few ghost stories shared by some cricketers:
Shane Watson:
An Australian hero but not during his tenure in the Lumley Castle Hotel during the 2005 Ashes series. The Aussie team were put up there for the now legendary series between the two and Shane Watson claimed he saw ghosts. The all-rounder was so scared of the “presence” in the 600 year old hotel that he shared his room with Brett Lee.
Even the Australian media manager was quoted saying that he saw ghosts and he was telling the truth.
Sourav Ganguly:
Another victim of Lady Lumley was The Dada, Sourav Ganguly. During a series in England, India stayed at the same hotel. Ganguly was awoken in the middle of the night by a strange sound – that of the bathroom tap flowing. After a while, the tap closed on its own but by then Ganguly had scooted to Robin Singh.
England does have a long history with the paranormal so this might just have been true. The ghost is said to be of Lady Lumley – A lady who was murdered in the 14th Century by priests.

Stuart Broad:
Sticking with England, Broad this time was the victim of a “spooky attack” from another popular and ancient hotel – The Langham. Broad claimed that he went through the same thing that Ganguly did and the taps in his room turned on in the night. When he switched it on, the tap automatically closed and the water stopped flowing.
Broad and his girlfriend were disturbed and even Ben Stokes wasn’t able to get good sleep apparently. The hotel has been the subject of multiple ghost occurrences and the hotel’s website itself confirms that Room 333 is the focal point of much haunting.
Haris Sohail:
The Pakistani player, Haris Sohail too, has claimed to have felt a bad presence during their tour to New Zealand in 2010. He claimed that he felt like he was being shaken and tossed by a supernatural entity.
Sohail called the coach and was allegedy sweating and feeling feverish. He was also examined by a doctor. Sohail went on to fall for a duck and there can surely be only one excuse, right?
Djinss of Ferozeshah:
One of the most iconic stadiums in India in one of the most historical cities in the world, New Delhi’s Ferozeshah Kotla is one place that is claimed to be haunted. The stadium that is famous for Anil Kumble’s 10 wicket haul is also the subject of multiple sightings of Djinns.
Present opposite the ancient city of Ferozeshah, people claim to have seen Djinns around the stadium. They were popular in mythical times and are said to grant wishes. Maybe Virat Kohli got his fulfilled? We’ll never know.
