Reports coming from the Indian team in England claim that they are unhappy with Anil Kumble as the current coach of the squad. Here are five contenders for the role of the Indian coach if Kumble is asked to step down:
Sanjay Bangar
Bangar is one player who has a good chance of making it to the top position. He is already the batting coach of the squad and is someone who has a good equation with everyone in the team. He has vast amount of experience, having coached the likes of the List A team, the KXIP and the KTK franchises. Kohli is also said to credit Bangar with all the positive changes in the Indian squad over the past year or so.
Sandip Patil
One player with a humungous amount of coaching experience behind him, Sandip Patil is another name that carries a lot of weight. He does have an outsider chance of winning the role. Patil has coached the likes of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka before so representing the team at the highest stage will not be an issue for him.
Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag as the coach would be a wonderful reunion for fans of Indian cricket. The flamboyant ex-opener of the country is someone who is loved all over. He is also the coach of the KXIP and has good experience. He is also someone with vast international experience, so coaching the squad in tough conditions will not be alien.
Lalchand Rajput
The former Indian team manager is someone who has also given his name for contention as the coach. He is someone who has represented the team before and knows the players really well. It will be interesting to see how he manages as the coach.
Tom Moody
Another player with vast experience as an international coach, Tom Moody will be an interesting yet good choice for the role. He knows the Indian conditions well thanks to his stint in the IPL and is a face that is respected and recognized throughout the cricketing fraternity.
