The Tragic Story Of MS Dhoni’s Friend Santosh, Who Taught Him The Helicopter Shot

MS Dhoni’s biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has released all over the world and received an unbelievable response on is first weekend end. It has become the second top day 1 opening of 2016 after Salman Khan’s Sultan. Dhoni’s biopic is an inspirational and motivational movie that will surely encourage many young boys and girls to play cricket.

Dhoni’s biopic has many secrets of Dhoni’s life on and off the field. It has also revealed how MS Dhoni learnt to play the helicopter shot.

MS Dhoni’s childhood friend Santosh Lal taught him how to play the helicopter shot. Santosh used to call it ‘Thappad Shot’. Santosh Lal was Dhoni’s childhood friend and they spent a lot of time together traveling to different states for cricket tournaments. While speaking to The Indian Express, another friend of Santosh Lal, Nishant Dayal said:

“He and Dhoni were the best of friends since childhood. They would play tennis ball games endlessly. They both worked for Railways. Santosh was fearless as a batsman. Over the years, Dhoni may have patented the “helicopter shot” but growing up, there was someone who was better at it. Dhoni always admired his batting style. And Santosh taught him to play the helicopter shot,” adds Dayal.

Dhoni and Santosh remained friends even after he started playing cricket for India. But, unfortunately, Santosh succumbed to pancreatitis at the age of 32. Dhoni had arranged an air ambulance for his ailing friend to shift him to a Delhi hospital, but it all went in vain.
