In the Super Eight stage, Sri Lanka went down for a meagre 209 against South Africa. By their 45th over, the Proteas needed only four runs to win, with five wickets in hand.

Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene threw the ball to Lasith Malinga. The Slinga bowled four yorkers at Shaun Pollock before bamboozling him with a slow fifth ball to take his wicket. Then in the last delivery of the over, Malinga greeted Andrew Hall with another yorker. Hall managed to get his bat to it, but only enough to scoop it up into Upul Tharanga’s hands. Malinga returned in the 47th over, with South Africa needing just three runs, with three wickets in hand. The Sri Lankan neatly took Jacques Kallis for his hat-trick, and ended by sending Makhaya Ntini packing with his very next ball. In four deliveries, Malinga took his team from hapless to hopeful. Sri Lanka lost, but The Slinga went into the record books for being the only bowler to have taken four wickets in four deliveries.
