Stat-Attack: Phillip Hughes’ cricketing achievements

The cricket world is in a state of deep agony, following the untimely and tragic demise of Australian batsman Phillip  Hughes. Hughes died on November 27 two days after he was struck on the lower left side of his head.

The entire cricket fraternity have come together in praying for Hughes and his family. Cricketers, former cricketers, journalists, sportsperson and millions of cricket lovers across the world, took to the social media to express their love for Phillip Hughes. #PutOutYourBats campaign went  viral and Twitter and Facebook  were flooded with thousands of pictures.

Phillip Hughes, 25 years and 362 days, played 26 Tests and 25 One Day International matches for Australia. He also played one T2o international (T20I).

In this article, we will have a look at some of Phillip Hughes’ cricketing achievements.

– Phillip Hughes is the youngest to score two Test 100s in the same match: Hughes scored two consecutive hundreds against South Africa at Durban in March 2009. He was 20y-98d old. Hughes scored 115 and 160 in 1st and 2nd innings respectively.

– Phillip Hughes is fourth in the list of  youngest Australian to make a 150+ score in Tests: Hughes 160 in the second innings at Durban, also made him the fourth youngest Australian to make a 150+ score in Test cricket.

– Phillips Hughes is second in the list of youngest opener to score 1150+in Tests : In the same innings, Hughes also became the second youngest opener in the history of cricket to make score 150+ in Test cricket.

– Phillip Hughes was the first Australian to score a double century in a List A game

– Phillips Hughes has the second highest score in List A games by an Australian: Phillip Hughes scored 202* for Australia against South Africa A and became the first Australian to score a double century in a List A game. Ben Dunk (229*) holds the record for the highest score by an Australian in a List A game.

– Phillip Hughes is the only Australian to make an ODI century on debut: Phillip Hughes became the first Australian to score a ODI century on debut, when he smashed 112 runs against Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), in July 2013.
