In the first One Day International (ODI) of the five-match ODI series between India and West Indies, West Indies thrashed the home side by 124 runs. India’s batting order, which is said to be one of the best in the world, in the shorter format, tumbled against the West Indian bowlers and failed to bat their full quota of 50 overs. India suffered a batting collapse, losing five wickets for 63 runs, and plunged to a massive 124-run loss. It was the biggest defeat at home in 12 years for India.
By runs, this is India’s fourth-worst defeat on their home soil. The table below lists India’s worst ODI defeats at home (by runs).

[/table]Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, this was the first time India lost by a margin of over 100 runs. The Indian batting lineup has been considered as one of the best in recent times and such a defeat was never really expected from them. The team has the capability to chase down massive totals with quiet the ease and, infact, just last year, during Australia’s tour of India, India successfully chased down targets of over 350, twice!
It was their 26th loss to West Indies, which is now the highest number of defeats against any team at home.
