Virat Kohli Birthday: Mohammad Hafeez Picks Kohli As The Most Valuable Batsman In T20 World Cup 2022

Former Pakistan all-rounder gave Virat Kohli a big compliment on the latter’s birthday. The former India skipper, Kohli, is celebrating his 34th nameday on Saturday, November 5.

Kohli is having a dreamy run of form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022: Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia having recorded 220 runs in 4 innings, raising 3 half-centuries and has been dismissed only once.

So it was no surprise, and in fact, quite expectedly, when Mohammad Hafeez picked Virat Kohli as the Most Valuable Batsman of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Speaking with the ICC, the former Pakistani legend was asked to name his Most Valuable picks in all three departments. He started off with Kohli, recalling his majestic knock against Pakistan at the MCG.

Hafeez said Kohli’s “very special” was a great example in pacing a run-chase and helping his side cross the line in the last over.

Kohli cracked 82* off 53 balls after India had been left reeling at 31/4 in the chase of 160. Kohli himself attested this innings as his best in T20Is for India, because of the pressure, the situation, the occasion, and the opposition, ranking it higher than his Mohali epic against Australia in 2016.

Among the bowler’s category, Hafeez went with South Africa quick Lungi Ngidi, who has taken 7 wickets in 3 innings and conceded at an economy of 8.1 with his best in the tournament of 4/29 coming against India. Hafeez was impressed by Ngidi’s variations and how the pacer has used the Australian conditions to his cause.

Last but not the least, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza was named by Hafeez as the Most Valuable All-rounder of the tournament. A late bloomer in international cricket, 36-year-old Raza has been on fire in the tournament: he’s scored 185 runs at an average of 26 and strike rate of 149 while also picking up 9 wickets at a terrific economy of 6.57. Raza was the Player of the Match in Zimbabwe’s victory over Pakistan.
