India vs Netherlands: “KL Rahul Knew He Was Not Out Yet He Played A Bluff”

India opener and vice-captain, KL Rahul, was subjected to extreme trolling after he was dismissed for just 9 runs off 12 balls against the Netherlands on Thursday, in the Super 12 match between the two sides at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Rahul was coming from a dismal knock against Pakistan a couple of days ago when he managed only 4 runs from 8 balls at the MCG. And he fell for another cheap score when Paul van Meekeren had him lbw in the third over of India’s innings.

Rohit Sharma had won the toss and elected to bat first on what was a slowish surface. The Dutch bowlers got their side off to a good start in the powerplay. KL Rahul got a boundary in the first over on the off-side, to the bowling of Fred Klaassen, but the left-arm orthodox spinner Tim Pringle tightened the screws by conceding only 3 runs in the next over.

Right-arm pacer Meekeren was introduced in the third over. He conceded two runs from the first three balls to KL Rahul before trapping the batter lbw in front of the stumps. It was a full delivery and swung in a little bit and went on with the angle. Rahul played a flick shot but missed the ball that hit him on his front pad. The bowling team went up in appeal. Umpire Ahsan Raza took his time before raising the finger.

Rahul consulted with Sharma for a DRS, but he opted against taking the review despite Sharma seeming to be suggesting that the ball may have been sliding down leg. And Rohit was spot on: Hawk-eye showed that the ball was missing the leg stump and Rahul would have been saved had he taken the review.

While KL Rahul’s cheap score against the Netherlands led to huge trolling on social media of the opener, one renowned Twitter user with the handle ‘@GabbbarSingh’ took it to the next level, saying that it was smart of Rahul to avoid being trolled for scoring runs against a weaker opposition!

“KL Rahul knew he was Not out, yet he played a double bluff and trolled all his haters by not scoring against the Netherlands as well. Hats off,” the user tweeted.

This hilarious tweet has gone viral.
