The T20 World Cup 2022 will run from October 16 to November 13 in Australia. After that, though, the all-format Indian players are unlikely to take part in bilateral T20I series as the ODIs will become of priority given the 2023 ODI World Cup, in India, is also only a year away.
With several all-format players expected to give a rest during T20Is matches, the selectors may hand call-ups and T20Is caps to several youngsters in the shortest format.
Here are 5 youngsters who could get a chance in India’s T20I team after the T20 World Cup 2022:

Mohsin Khan
The IPL 2022 sprung up a number a number of young Indian pacers, out of which perhaps the most impressive one was Mohsin Khan. The Lucknow Super Giants seamer picked up 14 wickets in 9 matches at a terrific economy of 5.96.
Mohsin is tall, hits the deck hard, and can generate extra bounce due to his height; his left-arm angle has already gotten him a slight advantage of other pacers. The 24-year-old from Uttar Pradesh is likely to soon get an India call-up.
Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi got his maiden India call-up for the 2 T20Is in Ireland. However, he didn’t get to make his India debut. Tripathi has been a consistent and attacking scorer for KKR in the previous seasons, but had his best season this year while batting at number 3 for SRH.
In the IPL 2022, Tripathi scored 413 runs at a strike rate of 158. With the likes of Kohli and Rohit likely to be rested from T20Is after the T20 World Cup, Rahul Tripathi might get to make his India debut in the coming months.
Umran Malik
The fastest-ever Indian bowler in the IPL, Umran Malik bagged 22 wickets in the IPL 2022 for SRH – the highest among Indian pacers. Malik also picked a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans. The 22-year-old was drafted in the Indian team and played 3 matches vs Ireland and England, managing a couple of wickets but was very expensive – leaking at more than 12 runs an over.
Malik has a lot to learn, but his exciting pace has got the attention of the selectors. The Jammu speedster could soon become an asset by the time the 2024 T20 World Cup comes around. With the likes of Bumrah, Shami set to be rested next year, Malik could get more T20Is under his belt and gain experience and learning.
Mukesh Choudhary
In the absence of Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Choudhary led CSK’s bowling attack brilliantly and made some spirited performances, such as bowling over Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in one over! Mukesh Choudhary snapped 16 wickets in 13 IPL matches this year, and could be in line for an India cap maybe next year.
The 26-year-old Maharashtra pacer also has taken 38 wickets in 13 first-class matches. His left-arm angle and ability to swing the ball caught the attention of everyone including skipper MS Dhoni. Choudhary and Chahar will form a deadly opening bowling combo next year.
Tilak Varma
In a season of disappointments for MI, Varma was one of their biggest positives. Varma scored 397 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 131.
The biggest praise 19-year-old Tilak Varma received was from his Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma. Sharma hailed Varma’s maturity and technique and declared that the left-hander would soon play all three formats for India!
“In my opinion, I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique, he’s got the temperament, which is the most important thing when you play at the highest level,” said the MI and India skipper Rohit Sharma about Tilak Varma.
