As the T20 World Cup has already started and we are seeing the qualifiers present us with a string of impressive crackers, the battle of the stalwarts would be hitting the yard from the following week as Australia and New Zealand would be kickstarting the Super 12. This will be followed by the mega-blockbuster as India will go head-to-head against Pakistan in a crackling affair to light up Sunday in the flashiest of pyrotechnics.
With the showpiece event all set to roll in its majestic glory, a lot of talks already doing the rounds about the potential players who can adorn the tournament in their own blazing way. Here are the five potential candidates for the highest wicket-takers of the T20 World Cup.
#1 Mohammed Shami
Coming on as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami just gave a glimpse of what he is capable of. He hurtled his way past the Australians in that one over he bowled. He is a pro at moving the cherry when it is new and given hos regular speed of almost 140 clicks and above, Shami can be a blessing in disguise for Team India. More importantly, he has started making his yorkers lined up in perfection.
#2 Shaheen Shah Afridi
One of the finest fast bowlers at the moment, Shaheen Shah Afridi would be a major contender for being the highest wicket-taker at the moment. Given the fact that he is a left-arm fast bowler, he can angle it away from the batters and can target the corridor of uncertainty on the off-stump where the ball will be meandering sharply and that can be a very tormenting wobble for any batter.
#3 Josh Hazlewood
Ace Australian quick, Josh Hazlewood has been proving himself since the T20I series against Sri Lanka ever since the start of the year and a bowler who rocked IPL with his special attributes would undoubtedly be an amazing addition to any side of the world. He is not known for much pace but he attacks the line of the stumps and more importantly he maintains a very tight discipline.
#4 Trent Boult
Another left-handed seamer who can drift the ball in both ways, Trent boult is one of the most fearsome fast bowlers of the world. He angles the ball away from the batter and often charges in the line of the stump with a slight late wobble that imparts a sharp curve to the cherry. Imagine the confusion that the one at the other end has to endure while Trent Boult steams in.
#5 Reece Topley
A surprising addition to the list for sure but Topley has produced one gem after the other. He uses the same line as that of Boult, attacking the batter’s pads but with a slight movement that forces the one at the other end to bring his bat down in time. A slight error in judgment and the next thing you know that you are back to the pavilion.
