Chennai Super Kings bagged their fourth IPL title last night under the captaincy of Dhoni as they managed to get the better of Kolkata Knight Riders in an exceedingly brilliant display.
They started on a rollicking note after being put to bat as two of their openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis were off to a blinder.
Even after Narine managed to get the better of Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa continued the battery alongside the South African opener. The duo stitched together another 63 runs stand as Kolkata couldn’t manage much success with the ball.
It was once again Narine who managed to put an end to the partnership, however, that did very little good to the ambitions of the Knights as an in-form all-rounder, Moeen Ali carried on with the destruction.
The one man who stayed until the last ball, peppering the bowlers into all corners of the park was South African opener, Faf du Plessis. He managed to blast a 59-ball-86 that starred 7 fours and 3 sixes.
The two Kolkata openers were off to a flying start, thanks to the impressive openers, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer. However, once the partnership was breached, Kolkata couldn’t really offer much resistance as the middle order crumbled like a house of cards.
It needed some late pyrotechnics from Mavi and Lockie Ferguson to make the score look a lot more competitive than what would have been a totally woeful illustration on the cards.
During this intense clash that unfolded on the pitch, another beautiful spectacle went viral in the stands as Dhoni’s daughter, Ziva was seen praying for his father. This however, was a scene from a preceding game and it came back for all the right reasons.
