It has been eight months since team India last played an international game. Their last series was the two-match Test series against New Zealand. After that, team India was supposed to host South Africa for the three-match ODI series. After the first match was called off due to rain, the ODI series was suspended due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, teams like England, Pakistan West Indies. etc. have made their return to international cricket.
Team India will be back after a long break playing international cricket again when they take on Australia for a long tour which begins on November 27. The tour consists of a three-match ODI series, followed by a three-match T2)I series and then the all-important four-match Test series. Although India will not be playing as much international cricket in 2020 as they would have liked, the year 2021 promises to bring a lot of international cricket in which team Indian will be involved.
Team India to play non-stop cricket in 2021
According to a report by InsideSport, there is not a single month in 2021 where the Indian team will not be involved in an international series. Team India might play 14 Tests, 16 ODIs and 23 T20s from January 2021 to December 2021. And the most exciting part about this is that all this is excluding the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in which team India will also feature in 2021.
“We understand it will be tough on the players but we are obligated to honour FTP commitments. We have a bigger pool of talent now and players. We’ll make sure players get ample rest before called in for India duties. Rotation policy will surely come into play,” one BCCI official quoted as saying by InsideSport.
Team India after coming back from Australia will host England for a long tour which will consist of four games per all three formats. The Indian players and players from all around the world will then gear up for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. The IPL will be followed by a three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series away to Sri Lanka who will also be hosting the Asia Cup post India’s tour.
All these series will be followed by the tour to Zimbabwe where team India will be playing three ODIs, then the five-match Test series away to England, followed by the all-important ICC T20 World Cup. India will wrap up their home season by home series against South AFrica and New Zealand before they end the year with a tour to South Africa where they will play three Tests and as many T20Is.
