Ricky Ponting has played the most number of World Cup matches. Ponting is also the most successful captain in the history of World Cup cricket.


3) Brian Charles Lara

The King of Caribbean Brian Charles Lara is third highest run scorer in this history of ICC Cricket World Cup. Lara scored 1225 runs in 34 matches at an average of 42.24.


4) Sanath Jayasuriya

Sri Lanka’s swashbuckling opener Sanath Jayasuriya, who revolutionized the role of an opening batsman in ODI cricket is the fourth highest run scorer in the history of ICC Cricket World Cup. Jayasuriya has scored 1165 runs in 38 World Cup matches, at an average of 34.26. Jayasuriya’s strike rate in World Cup cricket is 90.66.


 

5) Jacques Kallis

South Africa’s batting maestro and arguably the greatest all-rounder in the history of cricket, Jacques Kallis is the fifth highest run scorer in the history of ICC Cricket World Cup. Kallis has scored 1148 runs in 36 World Cup matches, at a healthy average of 74.40.
