After an impressive outing in England in the ODI series, Team India will look to win the home series against West Indies, as momentum will be the key going into the all-important Cricket World Cup 2015.
After a disappointing Test series against England, Ravi Shastri was appointed as Team India’s Team Director. The decision proved worthy as India won the ODI series. Ravi Shastri is now asked to stay with the team till the end of the World Cup 2015. Ravi Shastri has been given the job of taking caring of all the matters related to cricket and keep a close contact with the selection committee headed by former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil.
“We need to have a dialogue with the selectors on where they are coming from, what their train of thought is, what the team feels. I am in touch with all 5 of them. My job is not to select the team but to communicate with them (selectors), so that we both are on the same page,” Ravi Shastri .was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
India will play 2 One Day International series before the World Cup 2015; home series against West Indies and tri-series against Australia and England, in Australia.
The conditions in Australia and New Zealand are very different from what we get in India, and picking the right squad according to need of the conditions will be the most important job of the selectors.
“The prime importance will be given to form. The combinations are important, we have to identify our strengths and see who the right people are to manage those roles,” Ravi Shastri was quoted as saying, by Hindustan Times.
2014-15 domestic season is just around the corner, and the national selectors will have a keen eye on it. The Vijay Hazare trophy, which will be held in November, will be very crucial and it will have a direct impact on the selection for the tri-series in Australia.
“I will be watching domestic cricket. That is where I will divide my team leading into the World Cup. I will be coming in and out during the Australia series. The Indian team will be cut off, the coaching staff will be cut-off. It won’t be a bad idea to come down and see a few games. There are gaps between Test matches,” Shastri was quoted as saying, by Hindustan Times.
