As the year 2019 is coming to an end, former skipper VVS Laxman believed it was a great year for the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, and his team.
In 2019, India won seven of the eight Tests they played this year, with one of them ending in a draw. The Virat Kohli led team won 19 ODIs out of the 28 they played and went on to register nine victories in 16 T20Is.
However, there was one victory that fulfilled VVS Laxman’s dream of the Indian team registering a Test series win in Australia.
Well, it happened for the first time after 1947, that the Indian cricket team was able to beat the Australians in the longest format of the game by 2-1 in the four-match rubber.
Last year, India in a historic moment won the first test match against Australia by 31 runs in Adelaide and lost the second match in Perth by 146 runs. However, the team made a strong comeback and won the third match in Melbourne, registering eight wickets win over Australia. The fourth and the decider Test had ended in a draw in Sydney.
Talking about how he was not able to achieve this milestone in his career, VVS Laxman said:
“It’s been a very good year for Indian cricket but being a Test cricketer, my dream was always to beat Australia in Australia but I was not able to achieve that in my career,”
Praising Virat Kohli’s leadership skills, VVS Laxman revealed that India winning a test match against Australia was his favorite moment of the Indian cricket team in 2019. He said:
“I’m so glad that this Indian team under Virat’s leadership has beaten Australia for the first time in their own backyard which is my favourite moment of Indian cricket in 2019.”
