The young Indian opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has found himself at the receiving end of criticism because of his consistently poor performances in the ongoing two-match series against New Zealand.
Team India is without their regular opener Rohit Sharma who was ruled out after he faced an injury during the final T20I match against New Zealand. In his absence, Prithvi was picked ahead of Shubman Gill as the second opener for Team India with Mayank Agarwal for the first test, however, he has failed to make the most of his opportunities in both the innings he played with scores of 16 and 14 only.
In the first innings, Prithvi Shaw had smashed two fours but never looked settled and was eventually dismissed by a Tim Southee’s half-volley outswinger.
In the second innings, the U-19 world cup winning captain seemed to have not learned from his past mistakes as he showed discomfort while playing. He was dismissed off Trent Boult’s delivery that he dug up in from around the wicket that left Shaw surprised. The ball eventually landed in the hands of Tom Latham.
Before this, Prithvi Shaw played his last test match way back in October 2018, however, after an ankle injury he was sidelined. Later in 2019, he was suspended for a doping violation and thus, he missed the West Indies tour and then also the home series against Bangladesh and West Indies.
While Shubman Gill is yet to make his Test debut for Team India and Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the series, it will be interesting to see whether Prithvi Shaw will be given another chance in the second Test match or India will go for Shubman Gill.
Meanwhile, the fans are very disappointed with the way Prithvi Shaw has played in the two innings for India and are thus, trolling him left, right and center. There are many who are questioning Team management for picking ‘unprepared’ Prithvi Shaw for the game, on the other hand, there are many who wants the inclusion of Shubman Gill in place of Prithvi Shaw.
