Virat Kohli Spoke About Rohit Sharma’s Absence In The Pre-Match Press Conference

Rohit Sharma’s injury has come as a big blow for the Indian Cricket Team ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma is the best opener in limited-overs cricket and also the most destructive batsman in world cricket. After sustaining a calf injury during the fifth T20 International in Mount Maunganui, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the ODI and Test series.

Ahead of the ODI series, the Indian captain Virat Kohli addressed the media and said that it’s unfortunate that Rohit Sharma can’t be part of the ODI series. Virat spoke about Rohit’s impact and said that because there is no other ODI tournament to look up to, Rohit Sharma can take him time and recover properly.

Virat Kohli Spoke About Rohit Sharma’s Absence In The Pre-Match Press Conference

“It is unfortunate that Rohit cannot be part of the ODI series, the impact he has had is there for everyone to see. We do not have any ODI tournaments to look up to, so it is ideal for him to get recovered. In ODI cricket, Prithvi is definitely going to start, KL will play in the middle-order. We want him to get accustomed to keep and play in the middle,” Virat Kohli told reporters ahead of the first ODI.

Virat Kohli also spoke about the importance of fielding because many fans and pundits believe that Team India’s fielding in the T20I series was sub-standard.

Speaking on the disappointing fielding performance by the Indian side, the captain said, “The average age of this team is 27, we should be fielding way better than we are. The fielding standard in the last series was not good from either side. In T20s, it can happen as you can get nervous. In ODIs we have had some bad fielding experiences, you do not expect it. I think it is about taking all three skills seriously,” Virat Kohli said.
