Ajinkya Rahane reveals how Virat Kohli motivated him during their record partnership

Ajinkya Rahane termed his 188-run knock against New Zealand in Indore as a ‘special one’. Rahane and Virat Kohli added 365 runs for the 4th wicket and took India to a mammoth total of 557 runs in the first innings of the third Test of the ongoing series.

Rahane struggled on day 1 when the Kiwi fast bowlers tested him short-pitched stuff, but he dominated the attack on day 2 and scored a brilliant hundred in the first ever Test match in Indore. Rahane, in an interview after close of play on day 2, said that this partnership with Virat Kohli will stay fresh in his memory for a very long time.

“It was hot out there today. I was struggling yesterday against the short ball and Virat told me to take my time. Today I wanted to dominate after getting the hundred. This partnership will stay in memory for a long time.” Ajinkya Rahane said.

In their short career so far, Kohli and Rahane have batted together a lot in Test cricket and they compliment each other very well on the field. Rahane also revealed how Virat Kohli motivated him when he was facing trouble against the short-pitched bowling on day 1.

This is what Ajinkya Rahane said:

“Virat came up to me and told me yesterday not to worry even though I was struggling. He was bating so well and fluently. He said it does not matter whether you are getting hit. Tomorrow if you are there you will dominate.”
