India’s Test skipper returned back to his run-scoring form with a brilliant hundred on day 1 of the third Test of the ongoing series against New Zealand. Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock and scored his 13th Test hundred in front of the newly-built and packed Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Virat’s 103 run knock from 191 balls was laced with 10 boundaries and came at a precarious moment in the match for India.

With this knock, Virat Kohli became the first centurion in the series. The previous high score was 87 by India’s no.3 Cheteshwar Pujara. Kohli came to the crease after India were 60/2 in the first session of the day and batted wit utmost responsibility and authority first with Cheteshwar Pujara and later with Ajinkya Rahane. Virat Kohli’s last hundred came in July when he scored his first ever double hundred in Test cricket against West Indies. But after that innings, he averaged only 18.85 with the scores of 44, 3, 4, 9, 18, 9, 45. This hundred was very important for Kohli as its a big home season for India and his form is very crucial for India’s success in all forms of cricket.

The best part of Kohli’s knock was his astute shot selection. On a pitch that had a lot of assistance for spinner, Kohli showed brilliant technique and played very low risk strokes against the Kiwi spinners.
