Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up about the viral video of fans allegedly chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ at star Indian pacer Mohhamed Shami during the fourth Test match of the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Well, the incident took place on the first day of the Test match last week, which was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese. During the game, which ended in a draw, the crowd at the venue in Ahmedabad cheered loudly for the Indian cricketers. However, some of the fans allegedly chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ at star Indian pacer Mohhamed Shami.

A fan-made video from the stands of the same incident has been making rounds on the internet for the last few days.

Rohit Sharma Opened Up About The Viral Video

The video has caught the attention of the netizens and has divided opinions among them. There have been no official word on the video until Rohit decided to break his silence on the issue.

“I am absolutely unaware of Jai Shri Ram chants for Shami. I just heard it for the first time. I don’t know what has happened there,” Rohit was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, talking about the BGT series, India became the first team to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy four times in a row. They won the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi to retain the BGT. The Australian side made a comeback to win the 3rd Test match by 9 wickets in Indore, following which the last Test match ended in a draw. India eventually won the series by 2-1.

Rohit also talked about the performance of his side in the recently-concluded series and was happy with how his team played over the last seven weeks. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit said:

“It was fantastic. Right from the word go. It was exciting, all the Test matches there was something in it for everyone to watch. We understand the importance of the series and definitely understand the importance of the opposition. After playing good cricket for 40-odd days, we stand here with a result we are quite happy with,”

He added: “There were challenges thrown up but we responded to them. With the result 2-1, the first two Tests, we knew how important it was to start the series. I think the Delhi Test match was something I’m really proud of because we were very much behind the game and to comeback from the situation that we did shows a lot of character and a lot of fight,”

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will be next seen locking horns against Australia in the upcoming three-match ODI series. The first game of the series is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 17 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
