IPL 2022: Kane Williamson Paid A Huge Fine After SRH’s First Match

The IPL has levied a fine of INR 12 lakh on Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson for slow over-rate during the Rajasthan Royals’ innings when the two sides clashed on Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium.

“The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) match against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 29,” the IPL said in a statement.

Kane Williamson has to pay hefty fine of 12 lakhs for slow over-rate.

As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakhs.”

Kane Williamson became the second captain in the tournament so far, after Rohit Sharma, to concede a fine for slow over-rate. Earlier, the Mumbai Indians captain has also copped a fine of a dozen lakh for his side’s slow over-rate in their loss to the Delhi Capitals.

This fine further hurt Kane Williamson, whose side performed poorly for most parts of the game. They were first hammered by the RR batters – though they have only themselves to blame for the no-balls in the powerplay and poor lengths in the death – and posted a mammoth total of 210 runs.

Any hopes for a miraculous run chase – with an already experience lacking batting order – were quickly swiped out when Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult snapped three wickets – Williamson, Rahul Tripathi, and Nicholas Pooran – inside the first five overs.

Fifty from Aiden Markram and cameos from Romario Shepherd and Washington Sundar helped them decrease the margin of loss to 61 runs.

At the post-match presentation, Kane Williamson rued the no-balls, while also commended the Royals for their clinical all-round display.

“We started beautifully with the ball, we had our opportunities. In all the games so far, there has been some swing and assistance with the new ball. You want to make some inroads, we looked very likely but unfortunately some fine margins in this game didn’t go our way. It was a very good surface, Rajasthan played outstandingly well. For us, there’s still a number of things to touch on and improve on as a side. You got to keep your chin up and move on to the next one,” Kane Williamson said.

SRH will now have plenty of time to reflect on their loss: their next game is on April 4th, against Lucknow Super Giants.
