With a five-wicket win over MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings, defending champion Gujarat Titans got off to a strong start in the tournament. After Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first, CSK scored 178 thanks to a brilliant 92 from Ruturaj Gaikwad off of just 50 deliveries. Dhoni finished off CSK quickly with an unbeaten knock of 14 off of 7 balls during his cameo.

In reply, GT were given a quick start by Wriddhiman Saha before Shubman Gill took over and scored a half-century. Despite scoring 63 runs in 36 balls, CSK were able to get back into the game after Gill’s dismissal and a rare failure from Hardik. However, with strong help from Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia kept up his season-long trend of closing out close games for GT.
CSK will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Chepauk Stadium on Monday (April 3), while GT will take on Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (April 4) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
