VIDEO: R Ashwin Attempts Non-Striker’s Run-Out ; Umpire Stops Him Mid-Way

While playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Rajasthan Royals, Ravichandran Ashwin sent a message to all nine teams’ batters by appearing to try to run out Adil Rashid at the non-end. striker’s RR stomped SRH by 72 runs in their season opener because they dominated every facet of the game.

On Sunday, during Rajasthan Royals'(RR) opening match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Ravichandran Ashwin was involved in another’mankading’ incident (April 2).

R Ashwin was bowling during this incident during SRH’s innings, and English spinner Adil Rashid was batting in the non-striking spot. While warming up to bowl to Abdul Samad, Ashwin appeared to try to dismiss Rashid instead. The umpire called a dead ball, however, and he had to stop.

The off-spinner R Ashwin was stopped by the umpire for reasons that remain unclear. Even if Ashwin had managed to knock down the stumps, Rashid would have been safe at the crease.

Ashwin has publicly defended any player who has used the non striker’s run-out to dismiss a batter. The dismissal has been the subject of heated debate among cricket fans and former players in recent years. Some defend it on the grounds that it is legal and place the blame on the batter for leaving the crease prematurely, but others argue that it goes against the “spirit of cricket” because it requires no skill to execute.

While captaining the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a match against the RR in the 2019 IPL, Ashwin dismissed his current teammate Jos Buttler in this fashion.

With a 72-run victory over SRH in today’s opener, RR set the tone for a successful season. RR scored over 200 thanks to half-centuries from Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets. Ashwin, meanwhile, only managed to take one wicket.
