IPL 2023: Top 10 Hilarious Memes After CSK Thrash MI By 7 Wickets

Ajinkya Rahane came out of the syllabus and smashed the fastest IPL fifty of the IPL 2023, in only 19 balls, leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a famous win over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede.

Rahane, aged 34, came in to bat at number 3 with the score of 0/1 in the first over after Behrendorff had bowled Conway. He left the scene at 82/2 in the 8th over, having smashed 61 runs off just 27 balls, creaming 7 fours and rocketing 3 sixes, and effectively killing off the chase of 158.

Earlier it were the CSK bowlers that had put pressure on the Mumbai Indians batters after MS Dhoni had won the toss. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan had got off to a quickfire start at the Wankhede, with a flurry of boundaries – the pair stroked 8 fours and 1 six combined.

But once both Rohit and Kishan were dismissed, CSK bowlers pounced on the inexperienced and out of form MI batters. The CSK spin twin of Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner shared 5 wickets between them and conceded 48 runs in their 8 overs combined.

For MI, Rohit, Ishan, Tilak Varma, and Tim David got to promising starts, but none of them could convert it into a half-century or a big score as MI ended with a below-par total.

In the chase, even as Conway was dismissed early, Rahane stunned the MI bowlers with his breathtaking strokeplay as he found gaps with precision and even wasn’t afraid to take the aerial route.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (40* off 36 balls) anchored from one side as first Rahane and then Dube played their strokes with freedom to take CSK to their second win of the season. CSK now sit at the 4th position in the points table while MI languish at the 8th with 2 losses in 2 matches.

CSK’s emphatic win and MI’s loss led to a flurry of memes on Twitter:

Rohit Sharma reckoned the seniors of the team, including himself, have to step up.

“We lost our way in the middle, did not capitalise on the start we got. It was a good pitch, 30-40 runs short and could not capitalise in the middle overs. Got to credit their spinners, they bowled well and kept us under pressure. You need to try out different things, you need to attack and be brave. We have got a couple of young guys and got to give some time to them. They have real talent and we have to back them and show trust in their ability which we are doing. The senior guys need to step up starting with me. We know the nature of IPL, when the tournament starts we need to get some momentum and when you don’t it is tough. Just two games and all is not lost still. If you win, you can win a few on the trot and when you lose it is hard to come out of that momentum. Hopefully things start to change.”
