In the next edition of Indian Premier League, Rising Pune Supergiant and The Gujarat Lions will make way for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who are serving a 2-year ban due to corruption charges. In an interview to cricbuzz.com, The Gujarat Lions’ owner Keshav Bansal said that it was communicated to them that they will be buying the team only for 2 years and after two years, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals will make their way back into the tournament.

“The contract states that the two new teams Pune and Gujarat will go out, so that’s the fact of the matter. When we bought the team, it was very clear that we will be buying it only for two years and after two years, these two teams will go out and the other two will come back, so that’s the way it is,” Keshav Bansal said.

Rising Pune Supergiant and The Gujarat Lions were formed after CSK and RR were banned for two years in 2015. In these years, both the franchises have build a strong fan base and their exit from the tournament will surely disappoint their fan armies.

Keshav Bansal also said that although given the choice, they would love to continue participating in the tournament, the current contract won’t allow them to feature beyond this season.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are very successful IPL franchises and their fans are desperately waiting for their comeback. It is true that their return will surely add more value to the tournament because of their hug fan bases.
